Why Go

Pic Paradis is the highest point on St. Martin at 424 meters — the only place on the island where you can see both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea simultaneously. The Paradise Peak Boutique Hotel sits on Rue du Pic Paradis near this summit, offering a mountain retreat experience that most Caribbean visitors don't even know exists. This is the anti-beach vacation — except the beaches are all visible from your room.

The Experience

The mountain position delivers something no coastal property can: temperature. At this elevation, temperatures run 5-8 degrees Celsius cooler than sea level, creating a climate that feels more like a Mediterranean hillside than a tropical island. The air is different up here — cleaner, drier, and perfumed with the wild herbs and tropical plants that cover the mountain slopes. Loterie Farm operates nearby — an eco-adventure park built around a former plantation that offers zip-lining through the rainforest canopy, hiking trails, a spring-fed pool, and a restaurant that serves lunch with views. Tennis Club de l'Île de Saint Martin provides court access for tennis enthusiasts. The Creators collective represents the island's creative community nearby. The drive up Rue du Pic Paradis is itself an experience — winding through tropical forest that thickens as you climb, with occasional breaks revealing views that extend to Saba, St. Eustatius, and Anguilla on clear days.

What to Try

Hike to the actual Pic Paradis summit for the dual-ocean panorama. Spend a half-day at Loterie Farm for zip-lining, pool swimming, and hiking. Drive the mountain road at sunset when the lighting turns the views into a watercolor painting.

Insider Tip

The mountain generates its own micro-weather. When the coast is clear, clouds often form around the peak in the afternoon. Time your summit visit for morning when visibility is best. The cloud formation itself is beautiful from below — watching weather develop around the mountain while you sit in sunshine at the boutique hotel.
