Ocean 82

Grand Case fine dining where the French side lives up to its culinary reputation

Grand Case restaurant

Why Go

Ocean 82 is one of those restaurants that reminds you why Grand Case is called the culinary capital of the Caribbean. Positioned directly on the beach at 82 Boulevard de Grand Case, this is refined French cuisine served with your toes practically in the sand. The combination of serious cooking and a stunning beachfront setting makes it stand out even on a street lined with excellent restaurants. If you're celebrating something — or just feel like treating yourself — this is where you do it.

The Experience

The dining room opens right onto the beach, with candlelit tables on the sand and the sound of gentle waves as your background music. The atmosphere is upscale but not stiff — you'll see linen tablecloths alongside barefoot diners, which is peak French Caribbean. Service is attentive and knowledgeable about the wine list. The kitchen takes its time, and courses arrive at a European pace, so plan for a leisurely evening. Expect to spend two hours minimum, which is exactly the right amount of time when the setting is this good.

What to Try

The lobster preparations are the signature here, and they're worth the splurge. Foie gras is done classically and well. The beef tenderloin is a reliable choice if you're not in a seafood mood. Save room for dessert — the pastry work shows real French training. The wine list leans heavily French, as you'd expect, with enough range to match any course. Ask your server for pairing suggestions; they're usually spot-on.

Insider Tip

Request a table on the sand rather than the covered terrace — the view is dramatically better, and on calm evenings the waves are gentle enough that you won't get splashed. Tuesday through Thursday are the quietest nights for a more intimate experience. Monday is closed, so don't show up and find dark windows.

The Practical Stuff

Dinner only, Tuesday through Sunday, 6 PM to 10 PM. Closed Mondays. Located on the main boulevard in Grand Case on the French side. Street parking is available along the boulevard. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during high season (December through April) and weekends. Budget for a $$$+ experience. Credit cards accepted. Grand Case is about a 25-minute drive from the airport and 30 minutes from Philipsburg.

Pair It With

  • Grand Case Beach — Take an afternoon swim before your dinner reservation
  • Calmos Café — Post-dinner rum drinks and live music just down the boulevard
  • Ti Coin Creole — Come back another night for the casual lolo side of Grand Case dining
