Lee's Roadside Grill & Bar
A fisherman's grill turned Simpson Bay institution with the freshest catch and live weekend music
Why Go
Lee's Roadside Grill started as a fisherman's roadside shack and became one of the most loved restaurants in Simpson Bay through sheer quality of food and force of personality. Lee Halley's journey from catching fish to grilling them for the public captures everything good about Caribbean food culture — fresh ingredients, bold flavors, generous portions, and prices that respect your wallet. The menu reads like a fisherman's dream: lobster, mahi-mahi, red snapper, grouper, conch fritters, ribs, and more, all coming off a grill that never stops.
The Experience
The atmosphere is lively and family-friendly, with a local energy that feels earned rather than manufactured. The grill is the centerpiece — you can watch your fish being prepared, which builds anticipation and trust in equal measure. Caribbean and BBQ influences blend in the seasoning and preparation, creating bold flavors that satisfy without pretension. Daily specials showcase whatever was freshest that morning. The full bar pours strong margaritas and cold beers. Weekend live music adds another layer, and the crowd on those nights is a genuine mix of locals, expats, and in-the-know visitors.
What to Try
The whole red snapper or grilled lobster are the standards — start there. Conch fritters are the perfect starter with a cold beer. The mahi-mahi and grouper preparations change with the daily catch. Plantains and coleslaw on the side are done the traditional way. Ribs satisfy the non-fish crowd with proper BBQ seasoning. Come hungry — the portions are generous.
Insider Tip
Lee's is closed on Tuesdays, so plan around that. Weekend evenings with live music are the best atmosphere but also the busiest — arrive early. The Billy Folly Road location in the Pelican area puts you within walking distance of several resorts. Lee's prices are noticeably lower than nearby resort restaurants for food that's significantly better. Cash is recommended.
