Club Orient

The Caribbean's legendary naturist resort — a story of resilience

Why Go

For decades, Club Orient stood as the Caribbean's most famous clothing-optional resort, drawing naturists from around the world to Orient Bay's southern end. Hurricane Irma's devastating Category 5 winds in September 2017 reduced the beloved property to ruins, and as of now, the resort remains closed. But the story of Club Orient is far from over — its legacy shapes Orient Bay's identity, and the conversation about rebuilding continues.

The Experience

In its heyday, Club Orient offered something rare: a genuinely family-friendly naturist experience in a Caribbean beachfront setting. The resort's wooden chalets and bungalows lined the southern stretch of Orient Bay, each equipped with full kitchens for self-catering. Guests could walk directly from their rooms onto the sand, where the clothing-optional policy created an atmosphere of freedom and acceptance that regulars describe as life-changing. Tennis courts, a fitness room, a restaurant, and a beach bar rounded out the amenities, but the real draw was always the community — a loyal international following that returned year after year, forming friendships across nationalities and generations. The beach itself remains accessible and continues to operate as a clothing-optional zone, carrying forward the spirit of the resort even in its absence.

What to Try

Visit the southern end of Orient Bay Beach where the naturist tradition continues on the public beach. Pay respects to the resort's legacy while enjoying the same turquoise water and white sand that made it famous. Talk to long-time Orient Bay visitors who remember the resort — their stories paint a vivid picture of what was and what might be again.

Insider Tip

The naturist section of Orient Bay Beach remains active and welcoming even without the resort. Look for the area south of the main beach clubs — the vibe is relaxed and respectful. Some former Club Orient staff now work at other Orient Bay establishments and love sharing memories of the resort's golden years.

The Practical Stuff

The resort is currently closed and in ruins following Hurricane Irma (2017). The naturist beach section of Orient Bay remains open and free to access. Located at the southern end of Orient Bay Beach, French side. Discussions about potential rebuilding are ongoing. Former premium pricing ($$$).
